The Sunshine Tour Championship Show Centre

Great Bookham Show Centre is the Sunshine Tour's creator, host and administrative centre. We are a busy summer showground, set in the beautiful Surrey Hills just off the A246 between Leatherhead and Guildford. We host a full range of competitions annually from April to October including dressage, show jumping and showing. The showground facilities include an indoor arena, 2 outdoor all-weather arenas, 5 grass show rings, 2 full sets of show jumps, working hunter jumps, permanent judge’s and secretary’s facilities and ample parking.

Dressage competitions are held on sand / rubber surfaces and range from Intro (walk & trot) to Elementary level. Summer dressage competitions are held on Wednesdays, starting in the afternoon and continuing into the evening providing a lovely, leisurely, shady chance to enjoy dressage at its best. We cater for junior and senior riders, novice and veteran horses, have-a-go and serious competitors with a variety of qualifiers available including our own home-grown championship series for local riders ‘The Romeo Series’ and qualifiers for the Sunshine Tour. We also offer chances to qualify for championships at centres like Hickstead and Oldencraig.

Show Jumping
competitions are held on well maintained, well drained grass arenas throughout the summer months. We have classes for minis, juniors, seniors, novices and experienced riders. Minimus classes are held specifically for riders just getting going in the exiting world of show jumping with classes from 1’6” to 2’ restricted to allow novice horses and/or riders to have fun, gain experience and maybe even win a fabulous rosette. In the main ring classes range from 2’3" to 3’3” which allows every level of competitive rider the chance to push themselves against the clock and against their fellow competitor for qualification to national and regional qualifiers – Sunshine Tour and Championships of Great Britain.

Showing is equally well catered for at GBEC’s showground with 3 open shows throughout the year, in the Spring, Summer and Autumn. Whether you want to have fun in Handsomest Gelding / Prettiest Mare, enter a junior rider in the lead rein classes, or have a ‘posh’ show horse eligible for show hunter, ridden cob or riding horse we have a class for you. If you have a show horse/pony that also loves to jump then there are classes for Working Hunter, Working Hunter Pony and Working Cobs. We have special classes for ex-racehorses, coloured horses with CHAPS qualifiers, veterans in VHS qualifiers and we very proud to have been awarded the VHS Regional Qualifier.

In short GBEC welcomes all types of competitor from first time through to those wanting to further their competitive career / qualify for national championships. Ssee www.gbec.info for further details and dates of all our competitions.

Great Bookham Equestrian Centre is a professional livery yard.  Our facilities include 3 schools, 2 jumping paddocks, fantastic hacking with no need for roadwork and 80 acres of pasture that drains incredibly well. All our horses are turned out daily, even through the winter and we can even provide individual turnout. We offer full, part and DIY livery. We have expert staff living on-site 24/7, 365!

Our yard is unique not only because we have a genuinely friendly atmosphere but also a great mix of liveries - from happy hackers and retired horses to competitors, both unaffiliated and affiliated, in every discipline. We offer full support and in-house instructors, although we also welcome freelance teachers. Any vet, farrier, dentist, saddler and therapist is welcome.  See GBEC Livery page for more information about livery services.
